Yifei Hu joins VIGH

Yifei Hu, M.D., M.Sc., recently joined the Vanderbilt Institute for Global Health as an AIDS International Training and Research Program (AITRP) fellow, a post-doctoral research training program funded by the Fogarty International Center (FIC) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). She will return to China at the end of the six-month fellowship, in April 2010.

Dr. Hu is working closely with Assistant Professor of Medicine Han-Zhu Qian, M.D., Ph.D. and Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) investigators to develop grant applications for HIV/AIDS epidemiological and behavioral interventions among high-risk populations in China. Her work focuses specifically on drug users and the relevance of circumcision and HPV and HIV infection among men who have sex with men.

Dr. Hu most recently served as Assistant Professor at the Chinese CDC in Beijing and was actively involved in national HIV/AIDS response monitoring and evaluation in China. She also worked as a National Technical Officer with the World Health Organization (WHO) in Beijing from 2005 to 2008, specializing in HIV prevention in high risk populations and strategic information.

Dr. Hu holds degrees in medical science from Peking University and preventative medicine from Tongji Medical University in Wuhan, China. Originally from Qingdao in Shandong Province on the eastern coast of China, her family now resides in Beijing, where her husband Dr. Dayong Huang is the attending physician of the Hematology Division at Beijing Friendship Hospital.
